This is a screen printing project responding to patterns and shapes seen in current international clothing trends. The project explores how, predominantly polka dots and stripes, can be manipliated through placement, overlays, use of colour, and how this can change how the print communicates. There are four individual sets of screen prints, inspired by ‘dots and spots’. These are entitled ‘Polka Dot Pop’, ‘Vivid Pop’, ‘Electric Movement’ and ‘Luminous Play’.
I chose to specialise in polka dots and stripes, due to my interest in pattern and textile design. I worked within a colour palette of 6 to 8 colours, also referencing popular colourways in fashion and homeware. These colours mainly include electric blue, lime green, fluorescent pink, teel and yellow.
The screen prints can be applied to textiles and clothing, while also working as sets, with the edition of stand alone art pieces.
Printed on Abacus a2 200g cartridge paper.
